This series explores the lives of Indian women through a lens of realism, focusing on their relationships, culture, and the deep-rooted connections that define their identities. As a first-generation immigrant, I’ve experienced the bittersweet journey of leaving behind a cherished life to create a new one. Through this series, I seek to honor those shared experiences—moments of resilience, celebration, and the delicate balance of preserving heritage while embracing change. Each piece reflects the cultural treasures that shape our lives: traditional attire, festive rituals, keepsakes, and tools that carry the essence of home.
Treasures of a Goddess celebrates the vibrant traditions of the Navratri festival, a time of joy, devotion, and community. This piece showcases traditional Navratri attire adorned with intricate details that reflect the beauty of the festival. Surrounding these garments are keepsakes, decorations, and everyday tools that hold happy memories and symbolize the connection between my heritage and the life I’ve built in a new land. With this work, I aim to capture not only the visual splendor of Navratri but also the emotional significance of the treasures we carry from one home to another.
